797RA Three Evolving Phases of Business Process as a Service (BPaaS)
Author: Robert McNeill
Business Process as a Service (BPaaS) is an emerging umbrella term increasingly used to capture a range of Cloud-enabled innovation within the broad services marketplace. Saugatuck research indicates that BPaaS offerings will follow three distinct evolutions, which may develop concurrently:
- "Cloud-enabled BPO," as traditional infrastructure / applications / business process outsourcing gets cloud-enabled.
- The Cloud creates new service opportunities (especially vertical).
- The creation of Business Process Utilities (BPUs) that emerge as the next generation of services.
In a companion Strategic Perspective Saugatuck offers explanations of three Strategic Planning Positions (SPPs) supporting our market evolutions and highlights the emerging services and likely evolution of those services that exist (see Strategic Perspective, The Evolution of Business Process as a Service (BPaaS), MKT-796 published October 19, 2010).
