A series of recent software acquisitions indicate that the “boundaries” of applications software are further blurring – moving away from traditionally-defined business applications and more toward middleware and business process. And SOA is clearly at the heart of many of these deals. IBM’s announcements of their intent to acquire FileNet, MRO Software and Webify – deals totaling more than $2.3 billion – follow closely on Hewlett Packard’s acquisition of Peregrine and announcement of plans to buy Mercury Interactive.
