263RA IBM Expands Open Source Strategy Scope at LinuxWorld

Leveraging the 15th anniversary of Linux, yesterday IBM announced plans to expand the scope of its open source commitment by targeting eight key open source opportunities and initiatives beyond Linux (see Figure 1). Long a supporter of Linux as a mainstream hardware operating system, IBM has now put up an even-stronger indicator that it intends to provide a full, soup-to-nuts open source stack. In this regard, IBM’s newest roadmap provides a more detailed set of development priorities – as well as a signal that it views open source as a stand-alone business within the company.
