The “death” of the traditional PC is one of the enduring myths shaping IT markets, provider strategies, and enterprise buying trends. Saugatuck’s analysis of PC sales data, however, indicates something much different – strong, historical growth even through periods of reported significant declines. This Strategic Perspective looks at a pattern of unfortunate data interpretation to show that the imminent demise of the PC is more likely a transition in roles, away from being the “go to” personal IT device in an increasing number of instances.
