How Much is Apple Losing its Innovative Touch?
Significant signs from recent product and service announcements indicate very strongly that Apple has hit the “pause” button on its innovation engine. The company is either slowing down or winding down its formerly world-leading, market-beating innovative approaches to technology use in favor of incremental feature/function improvements. In other words, it is starting to look like Apple is just like any other IT behemoth, protecting its product/revenue/ecosystem base by not risking anything truly different or innovative.
This can’t last too long, because within one to two years, somebody – maybe Microsoft, maybe Samsung, maybe Lenovo or Huawei, or even more likely, some currently unknown or unexpected innovative IT/services firm – will disrupt the Apple universe. The longer that Apple remains on The Innovator’s Plateau of incremental, non-threatening, non-disruptive change, the easier it becomes for the company to be caught and passed.
